St. John Road | New Alignment
CLARK COUNTY, IN—St. John Road sits in the heavily wooded area in southwestern Clark County and northeastern Floyd County. It is a half mile, two-lane roadway that was experiencing shifting and sloping of the pavement. The horizontal and vertical geometry was substandard in nearly every design feature.
The extreme terrain and rock excavation required for this project provided unique challenges for both the designer and the geotechnical consultant.
Reducing Constructability Costs
BLN's Transportation Department took on the task of reducing constructability costs to assist the County in achieving funding. Our team recommended and implemented an altered scope that included low-maintenance options and various features for long-term safety. These changes reduced the estimated construction cost by $1.6M giving Clark County a constructable design.
